Hey everyone thanks for joining me today, A little known fact that people may or may not know is that I am a huge horror movie fan. So, when people find this out, they ask my advice for what is good to see and what is not.
Without further ado here is my top 10 horror movies I would recommend seeing, now by no means is this a complete list of all the movies I think are great but these will get you started. Just so you know I will add whenever possible the year it was released and a description of the plot however, I will try not to have any spoilers.
Number 10: Tremors 1990 Rated Pg-13
(This movie actually has six movies in the series but the first one will always be my favorite)
Two repairmen Val and Earl are tired of their dull lives in the small town of perfection Nevada, But just as they are trying to leave they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist studying unnatural readings below the ground, With the help of a crazy couple the group fights for survival against giant worm- like monsters hungry for human flesh. This movie stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, Reba McEntire.
My thoughts on this film is this is a great movie for people who want a little scare but not over the top, now bear in mind that for those that are a little squeamish it does have a good amount of blood and gore. On a scale of 1 being not scary and 5 being never sleep again. I would give this a 2. It has a few intense moments but I could sleep just fine after watching this. Also, it should be stated that there is a bit of language in this movie, swear words are said a few times. This was one of the first scary movies I have let my Daughter see and it was a great way to get her started.
Number 9: April Fool’s Day 1986 Rated R
(This movie has a sequel that came out in the 2000’s but it was terrible compared to the original)
When a group of college students decides to spend spring break at the secluded island estate of their wealthy classmate, Muffy St. John, what starts out as a fun weekend turns into something more sinister. Muffy is very fond of practical jokes, and sets up numerous gags throughout her mansion. But, when friends begin going missing and turn up dead, they realize that they're trapped on the isolated isle with a mysterious and brutal killer.
My thoughts on this film is that the content is really well thought out and it has one of the best endings ever. It will keep you on your toes and on the edge of your seat. So, on the scale of 1 to 5 I again give this a 2, this was more suspenseful and not really scary but again it has some gore and some language, also this has some sexual innuendos and sexual content.
Number 8: Bram stokers Dracula 1992 Rated R
(in my opinion vampires are not meat to sparkle)
Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalize a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.
My thoughts on this movie is it could be the best romance movie ever!! Who wouldn’t want a love that lasts for all time and eternity? And that the loved one will search forever to find you again. So, on the scale I give this a 1 not scary to me at all however there is some blood obviously it’s a vampire flick, and there is some nudity but its quite a good movie. Also, bear in mind this is a long movie so when you sit down to watch be sure to allow plenty of time, you will get caught up in it.
Number 7: The lost boys 1987 Rated R
(no question I am a fan of vampire movies)
Teenage brothers Michael and Sam move with their mother to a small town in northern California. While the younger Sam meets a pair of kindred spirits in geeky comic-book nerds Edward and Alan the angst-ridden Michael soon falls for Star -- who turns out to be in thrall to David, leader of a local gang of vampires. Sam and his new friends must save Michael and Star from the undead.
My thoughts on this movie is this was done quite well for the era that it was made, there are a few sequels to this one however none holds a candle to the first. On our scale rating I would give this a 3 just for jump scares, this can get intense at times and does have a lot of blood and gore so if your sensitive to that this would be a hard pass for you. Also, there is a sexual scene so again be warned.
Number 6: Demon Knight 1995 Rated R
(this is one of the tales from the crypt movies and I do love both this one and Bordello of blood, I only had room for one in this list and demon knight one out)
Ex-soldier Frank Brayker is the guardian of an ancient key that can unlock tremendous evil; the sinister but charming Collector is a demon who wants the key so he can initiate the apocalypse. On the run from wicked mercenaries for almost 90 years, Brayker finally stops in at a boarding house in New Mexico where -- with the help of its quirky residents -- he plans to face off against the Collector and his band of ghouls, preventing them from ever seizing the key.
My thoughts on this movie is that I loved the comedic undertone that this movie has, Billy Zane the actor who portrays the collector demon did an amazing job. On our scale I give this one a 4 this one is probably best watch earlier in the day and not right before bed, also again this one has a good amount of sex and gore associated with it.
Number 5: Ghost ship 2002 Rated R
(this one has and amazing opening scene, blew me away I was not expecting it)
In a remote region of the Bering Sea, a boat salvage crew discovers the eerie remains of a grand passenger liner thought lost for more than 40 years. But once onboard the eerie, cavernous ship, the crew of the Arctic Warrior discovers that the decaying vessel is anything but deserted. It's home to something more deadly and horrific than anything they've encountered in all their years at sea.
My thoughts on this one is not a movie to watch before going to bed, this will leave disturbing images in your mind for a while. On our scale I would give this one a 4 I was quite disturbed after watching this one mainly after the first scene. Again, a good amount of gore in this one and language.
Number 4: Seven 1995 Rated R
(this is based on the 7 deadly sins)
When retiring police Detective William Somerset tackles a final case with the aid of newly transferred David Mills, they discover a number of elaborate and grisly murders. They soon realize they are dealing with a serial killer who is targeting people he thinks represent one of the seven deadly sins. Somerset also befriends Mills' wife, Tracy who is pregnant and afraid to raise her child in the crime-riddled city.
My thoughts are this is a very suspenseful movie, keeps you on your toes, on our scale this one gets a 3 and it has a lot of graphic scenes and gore and a crazy ending no one saw coming. Also, it needs to be mentioned that there is a lot of swearing. I feel like brad pitt and Morgan freeman make a great acting team and then you throw in Kevin spacey and you have almost the perfect movie
Number 3: Cabin in the woods 2012 Rated R
(this movie is very unusual)
When five college friends arrive at a remote forest cabin for a little vacation, little do they expect the horrors that await them. One by one, the youths fall victim to backwoods zombies, but there is another factor at play. Two scientists are manipulating the ghoulish goings-on, but even as the body count rises, there is yet more at work than meets the eye.
My thoughts are that this movie is it gave you several WTF moments. This movie was not what you would expect from the title. This got the number 3 spot on this list because it is unusual and was not a normal predictable horror movie. I would give this a 5 on the scale and mention that they were a lot of blood and sexual content.
Number 2: Annabelle 2014 rated R
(I don’t usually like haunted doll movies due to a story from when I was a kid)
John Form thinks he's found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia: a vintage doll in a beautiful white dress. However, the couple's delight doesn't last long: One terrible night, devil worshippers invade their home and launch a violent attack against the couple. When the cultists try to summon a demon, they smear a bloody rune on the nursery wall and drip blood on Mia's doll, thereby turning the former object of beauty into a conduit for ultimate evil.
My thought on this is that for a haunted doll movie it was actually quite good, I would give this a 4 defiantly don’t watch right before bed (especially if you own any china dolls!) I also have to mention I like the second one (Annabelle Creation) just as much as this one because I feel you get more insight in the beginning. Someday I hope to visit the museum and see the real Annabelle. (which is a raggedy Anne doll by the way)
Number 1: The conjuring 2013 Rated R
(Both 1 and 2 are equally good in my opinion)
In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine and Ed Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn and Roger Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. Though the manifestations are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.
My thoughts on this movie are that I love this is based on an actual documented experience, this movie I would give a 5 just because it leaves you feeling creepy and knowing that there is documentation saying that someone experienced some of the events in the movie is terrifying. I am sure the embellished some for entertainment purposes but still its chilling to think any of this movie could be true.
Well thanks everyone for joining me on my top 10 horror movies I recommend seeing, do you agree with me? If not, what would be your top 10 list? Have you seen any of these? Stay tuned for the post Have a great day.
